inter jam:
For students in grades 7-9
From rock bands to string quartets, the elements of musical groups are the same. This class hones in on those elements in four practical units: percussion, keyboards, strings (guitar and bass), and finally, the combination of the previous three into an ensemble. This class meets twice a week, with one class focusing on drums, percussion, and the rhythmic side of music, while the other focuses on pitched instruments and touches on music theory. There will be a performance element to the class, with students finishing the year feeling comfortable on all the instruments covered throughout the year, even if just at a basic level. This well-rounded approach is a big part of our philosophy and places an emphasis on developing an understanding of the inner workings of music. This allows all students to participate as equals regardless of technical ability, while still fostering the growth of an expressive, mature musician. Opportunities to perform will include The Heart’s annual shows at the Yukon Arts Centre.
