Main Responsibilities:
- Creating programs to support intellectual, emotional, and physical development of children
- Design curriculum and space with our current music, dance and visual arts department, focussed on making friends, foundations in literacy and fine arts
- Teaching basic learning skills such as social skills, personal hygiene, number & letter recognition, shapes, and colors to children in our Pre- and Afterschool Care
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
- Observe and assess children’s progress and behaviour and report to team lead to discuss recommendations for referrals for additional supports for children with special needs
- Assess the individual needs of each child to make sure they are being taught in a way that matches their particular learning style and skill level
- Work together with other staff members and parents, make sure to communicate effectively and maintain collaborative relationships
- Assisting with any programming at the Heart of Riverdale
- Ensuring the preschool is in good standing with inspections, early learning and child care
Education and Experience:
- Minimum ECE Level 1
- Completion of a two- to four-year college program focused on Early Childhood Education
- Two to three years of experience in some form of child and youth care and supervisory experience is preferred

- Strong ability to assess children’s needs and strengths
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet student’s needs
- Ability to create an environment focused on supporting safety and the well-being of children
- Ability to adapt and be flexible based on work demands and situations
Conditions of Employment:
- Vulnerable Sector RCMP security clearance; all THOR employees are expected to conduct their duties in a harmonious and cooperative manner.
